For general information about tamgas refer to
Tamga Contents page. It is clear that many tribes split into fractions that joined different juz unions; in one union they may have been rated as a tribe, in another as a seok clan, and vice-versa, in that respect, for example, are interesting the traces of Alachins or Alats, Ch. Bo-ma 駁馬 / 驳马, Bila, and Boma-Di 駁馬氐, "Skewbald horses", who presently are among Turkey Oguzes, Kyrgyzes, and Altaians, and who in the 13th century were listed with Oguzes and Kyrgyzes. Tamgas also help in identification of the tribes that changed their appellation, or fractioned into separate tribes with new ethnonyms. Note: in Turkish ”ğ” is silent, like ”gh” in ”night”, ”doğan” is pronounced ”doyan”. A part of the table apparently did not fit into the printing space, and for those clans we unfortunately do not have their tribal birds that help in identification of the affiliation. |
