The following translation of the official biography from the site of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic Tatarstan does not mention the official disfavor and demotions that fell on Prof. M.Z.Zakiev starting in about 2001, for the politically risky results of his scientific research, and the assistance in publishing unabridged results by others, the results that breach the wall of studious ignoring the facts and supporting doctrinal historical myths. At least for now, the historical doctrine of the Tatarstan institutions fell in line with the Russian version of the history, which was last revised after a peaceful transition of political power from B. Yeltsyn in the 2000.
Born in 1928. Philologist, teacher, public figure. Doctor of Philology (1963), Professor (1964), Full member of Academy of Sciences (AN) of the Republic Tatarstan (RT) (1991), Academic Secretary of Humanities Branch of AN RT Member of Presidium of AN RT. Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation (1976) and of the Tatarstan Republic (1970), Laureate of the Tatarstan Republic State Premium in science and technology. Head of the Department of Linguistics of the Language, Literature and Art Institute AN RT (IJALI) of G.Ibragimov. Dean of Tatar Language Faculty of Kazan State University (KGU), Pro-rector for Science, Kazan State University (KGU), Rector of Kazan State Pedagogical Institute (KGPI), Director Language, Literature and Art Institute AN RT (IJALI) of G.Ibragimov, Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Tatar ASSR
(i.e.
Chairman of the republican parliament in the Autonomous
Soviet Socialist Republic of the former USSR - Translator's Note). Published about five to six hundred (500-600) scientific works, including thirty five monographs, brochures, textbooks and instruction manuals for the Tatar language, the history of the Tatar school of Türkologists, the ethnic history of the Türkic peoples, interethnic and interlingual contacts, bilinguality and polylinguality. Being the Rector of KGPI (1967-1986), improved the educational process, the management of the institute. KGPI doubled the admission of the students, increased the numbers of lecturers with Ph.D. and Doctor of Science degrees, improved the material base of the institute. In IJALI of G.Ibragimov (1986-1997), M.Z.Zakiev created independent Departments of Ethnography, Manuscripts and Textology, Leksikology and Lexicography, for compiling the Collection of Monuments of History and Culture, of Tatar Encyclopedia, of Economy. M.Z.Zakiev created scientific schools in the fields of language, interethnic and interlingual contacts, bilinguality and polylinguality. M.Z.Zakiev prepared thirty Ph.D.'s and Doctor's of Science, twelve of his pupils became Doctors of Science and Professors. Under his guidance the Department of Linguistics in the IJALI of G.Ibragimov created a three-volume Academic Grammar of the Tatar Language, prepared multivolume Tatar Leksikology. Headed the Scientific Commission of the Education Ministry of the Russian Federation for the philological sciences, Headed the commission of the Education Ministry of Tatarstan for the Tatar language, Headed the commission of the Supreme Soviet of Tatarstan in preparation of a bill about the Languages of the Peoples of the Republic, Headed the Republican Council for Social Sciences and Humanities, M.Z.Zakiev was a member of the Constitutional commission of Tatarstan, A member of the bureau of the Russian Federation's Committee of Türkologists of the Russian Academy of Science, A member of the Scientific Council “Language and Society” at the Literature and Language Branch of the Russian Academy of Science. Presently M.Z.Zakiev is the Vice-President of the Committee of the Republican Cabinet of Ministers for realization of the Law of the RT “About the languages of the RT peoples” (NGO organization). M.Z.Zakiev was awarded orders of the Toiling Red Banner, Friendship of the Peoples, and six medals. M.Z.Zakiev is a veteran of the Great Patriotic War (i.e. WW II - Translator's Note). Awarded a medal "For Heroic Work in GPW (i.e. WW II)" (1946) M.Z.Zakiev is a honorary member of the Turkish linguistic society. |
